So I was part of my school assembly for Remembrance Day and it got me thinking.

My friend told me a very sad statistic while we were waiting for the assembly to start. '1 in 5 Canadians don't support/take the two minutes of silence'
That made me really sad but also angry. It made me realize that people either just don't understand or they don't want to take the little time to understand what happened to those brave people who fought all those battles, like the battle of Vimy Ridge, Hill 70, Bourlon Wood, Mons, Passchendaele and Ypres.
Those were just the major battles of WW1.
There was also WW2, the Korean War, Dieppe, Normandy, the North Atlantic, defending Hong Kong, and the Liberation of Italy. Let's also not forget the Afghanistan conflict and peace keeping missions. It's really depressing.

Probably one of the most famous poems ever made was during WW1. During battle John McCrae wrote "Flanders Fields" on the the fields of Flanders, Belgium. It is one of the most beautiful poems I have ever had the honour of reading.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short Days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

There were three videos played at the assembly and I really like one of them, had already heard the other two.

This amazing person on Youtube-holylama11, made a tribute to Canadian Soldiers of WW1. [link] It's made to The Black Hawk Down Theme but It's beautiful.

The next on was Just A Dream by Carrie Underwood. It was okay but I'm not sure I would've played it.

In grade six, four years ago we listened to an amazing song by Terry Kelly. The song is called A Pittance of Time. [link]

I also made a drawing last year that I have put up.

It's not very good in my eyes but according to some people I know, I'm too hard on myself.
